On Saturday 31 July 2010, APSA International launched its national program, "Setting up an educational healthcare network" at the Queen Victoria Community in Flacq Centre.
The program, set up in partnership with the American Embassy and a number of Mauritian companies, will target 4regions around the island and run throughout the year.
The program will be divided into two phases:
- In phase one, free public screening sessions will be held in partnership with the local community centres, in 4 different regions in the island. The aim will be to pick out 400 people, within the communities screened, suffering from diabetes or at risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
APSA took part in the 3rd Health Fair to be held in Mauritius, in Pailles, from 17 - 18 July 2010.
The fair was a great success with more than 50 000 visitors.APSA was one of a hundred associations present and wasable to provide free foot assessments to 59people suffering from diabetes.
The aim of the Health Fair was to present new technology and innovative products, and at the same time to inform and educate the Mauritian public with regard to their health.
It provided the association with a great opportunity to sensitize visitors with regard to the foot complications arising from Diabetes. The presence of APSA health professionals ensured this would be achieved.
Two months after the start of the construction, the ground floor slabs of both parts of the building have now been cast, and the walls are up to first floor level.
Facilities for electricity and plumbing are being put in place at the same time.
The outline of the future building is already clearly visible along with the interior rooms including the consulting rooms and the courtyard.
